  1. Tonight in the First Region Quarterfinals, Mayfield hammers Carlisle Co. 71 to 49. In the 12th Region Quarterfinals, Danville Christian survives 50-46 against Somerset in double overtime -- the third straight game in that tournament to reach double overtime.

  3. OK, so I mentioned the other day that the Dawson Springs head coach resigned between the district and regional tournaments ... the elements of this story are pretty rich:

  4. -- Mickey C. Blue takes becomes head coach after the Dawson Springs Panthers go winless in the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season.

  5. -- In Coach Blue's first season, the Panthers go 3-27. Two of the wins come against private Christian schools. The season ends on an 11-game losing streak with an 82-43 obliteration by Madisonville-North Hopkins.

  6. -- In 2022-23, the Panthers improve to 11-20 with several very close wins. But, again, Dawson goes out in the first round of the district tournament, big to Madisonville: 105-56.

  7. -- The Panthers last season punch above .500. The 18-13 season ends with a close loss in the first round of the district tournament at Madisonville but to Caldwell County, 62-56. (Led by the "Mr. Basketball" coach's son, nearby Lyon County goes on to win the state championship.)

  8. -- This is probably nothing, but I would want to check if I was really doing something with this whole thing. Every season summary for the Dawson Springs Panthers before this season lists the head coach as "Mickey C. Blue." For 2024-25, it's "Mickey Blue"--no "C." Like I said, probably nothing--but I'd want to check.

  9. -- The Panthers have another better-than-.500 season (17-16), but it's punctuated by an 80-67 home-court win over Madisonville-North Hopkins (the Panthers' first win over the Maroons in almost 28 years) and a first-round win over Caldwell in the Seventh District tournament. That advances them to the Second Region tournament.

  12. -- I don't know what the heck is going on, of course. But the comments on Facebook here and here are certainly intriguing. Among them is a link to a video from former Coach Blue himself.

  13. One of the biggest stars for Dawson Springs this season was the coach's son. He had 28 points in the win over Madisonville-North Hopkins, for example. I wonder if he played for the Panthers in last night's regional game.
