I watched every play of the Jets’ win over the Dolphins yesterday, and it really wasn't that tortuous. It was clear by about 4 Central yesterday that Miami wasn’t going to the playoffs as the Broncos rushed out to a 14-0 lead over the Chiefs. But I kept on with the Dolphins out of this stupid fidelity--even after the Jets went out two scores, even after the Denver-Kansas City game ended at about 5:30.
If I get to go to heaven, I hope to get to see a list of at what time/date each team’s championship possibility ended each season. I think that’d say something about how interesting a pro-football season was for a given team’s fans. It’s a particular jolt for me each year when the Dolphins’ last chance of winning the championship is mathematically snuffed, and it brings up a lot of feelings about the ending of Christmastide, getting serious about the start of the new year, moving on to new things, etc.
Back to NFL24, I plan to root for half of the teams in the playoffs. I’m not revealing which half because my favorites seem to fare better when I don’t announce my rooting interest; I plan to reveal after the Super Bowl how my teams did. In the same spirit, I do not plan to reveal for whom I will root in NFL25.
Happy Epiphany and new year, all.
My pre-season picks ended 154-118. I got all but 1 of the teams in the AFC playoff correct but only got 3 of the NFC playoff teams. When I looked at win totals for teams there were only 11 teams where I was within 1 of their actual win total: Bills, Dolphins, Ravens, Steelers, Texans, Titans, Raiders, Giants, Packers, Rams, and Seahawks. Against the spread, using my score predictions and opening odds, I was 130-139. Lesson here is don't bet.
ReplyDeleteAs a reminder here were my pre-season playoff predictions.
ReplyDeleteAFC: I had the Texans, Bills, Chiefs, and Bengals all in the divisional round and Bills beating the Bengals in the conference championship.
NFC: I had the Lions, Packers, 49ers, and Cowboys in the divisional round and the Lions beating the 49ers in the conference championship.
I then had the Lions 24 to the Bills 17 in the Super Bowl. I still have a shot at that one going into the playoffs.
Excellent performance!
