That One Kid's End of the Year Mix

That One Kid, an up and comer on YouTube, has provided me with their end of the year playlist for 2024. They ran a weekly playlist for the year and each week ranked the songs. These are all of the numbers 1's with no repeating songs. Out of 52 weeks, there are 47 songs represented in order from January to December.

1. Brazil by Declan McKenna
This song has also been one of my wife's favorites this year.

2. Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush
Glad to see a new generation getting Kate Bush.

3. Meta Angel by FKA Twigs
This video is so FKA Twigs.  She should have a new album coming out early in 2025.

4. Hayloft I by Mother Mother
The fun about getting music from a Gen Zer is that there is plenty of new music that I don't know.

5. Gimme! Gimme by ABBA
Of course this is also followed by old music.

6. Psychofreak by Camila Cabello
This was on my end of the year mix when it came out.

7. WingRiddenAngel by XXXTENTACION
There was definitely a time this year when XXXTENTACION was TOK's top artist.  A sad story.

8. Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
Some classics live on from generation to generation.

9.Warrior by Aurora
There will be some Aurora coming up in my end of the year mix.

10. Rhinestone Eyes by Gorillaz
I'm glad to see Gorillaz getting some listen from a Gen Zer.

11. Can I Kick It? by A Tribe Called Quest
At least right now Tribe is TOK's favorite rap group.

12. 4x4 by Dominic Fike
     A new artist to me.

13. Navajo by Masego
     Another new artist for me.

14. Sad! by XXXTENTACION
20 years old when he was murdered.

15. Ilomilo by Billie Eilish
Fun to hear some older Billie Eilish again.  Hadn't listen to any of this in a bit.

16. Army Dreamers by Kate Bush
Running Up That Hill is just an entry drug for Kate Bush exposure.

17. The Perfect Pair by Beabadoobee
I love the fact that there is such a wide range of music these days that anyone can so easily find.

18. I Wish by Skee-Lo
This song always makes me think of that movie Always Be My Maybe.

19. Curses by The Crane Wives
Like I said all kinds of music.

A bunch of new artists here for me.

23. Change Your Mind from Steven Universe TV Series
I never watched this show, but my kids love it.

24. Brooklyn Baby by Lana Del Rey
I've never been drawn into Lana Del Rey's music.  Glad to see she is still having relevancy.  She's been very influential over this past decade.

25. Girls by The Kid Laroi
Yes the early 2000's are coming back, get ready.

26. Dearly Departed by Shakey Graves
     TOK's current favorite artist.

27. 505 by Arctic Monkeys
It's funny the music that resonates with the next generation.  Of course like I said the early 2000's are making a comeback and soon it will be the mid-2000's.

28. A World So Full of Love by Shakey Graves
Shakey Graves will be at a music festival in Boise this March.

29. Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan
One of the big splash artists of the year that I completely missed out on.  This makes me think we are already into the Lady Gaga era of the 2000's.

30. Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood
I don't know this band at all.

31. The Room Where It Happens from Hamilton
I was thinking the other day my parents would be very happy at the growth of the musical in pop culture.

32. Tomorrow by Shakey Graves
The first artist with 3 songs on the list.

33. Chinatown by Shakey Graves
     Make that 4 songs :).

34. Nothing You Can Take From Me by Rachel Zegler
Also nice to see music still being so important in film.  This is from the new Hunger Games movie.

35. Pansy Waltz by Shakey Graves
Make that 5 songs.  Hopefully he'll get some new fans out of this exposure.

36. White Ferrari by Frank Ocean
Frank Ocean is a name I know but not their music.

37. Lithonia by Childish Gambino
I reviewed a couple of Childish Gambino albums from about 10 years ago.  Had no idea they were still making music.

38. When I'm Small by Phantogram
     Never heard of this band.

39. Good News by Mac Miller
Another sad story.  But Mac Miller was very good.

40. Dear God by XTC
Nice to see this song surviving.

41. The Recipe by Shakey Graves
It blows my mind that a song from an artist like this can only have 710 views on youtube.

42. Headlock by Imogen Heap
     The 2000's comeback continues.

43. 4:00 AM by Taeko Ohnuki
Like I said so many different types of music out there to be discovered.

44. Butterflies by Tom Odell
According to TOK this is an Aurora song.

45. Disparate Youth by Santigold
     Just a great song.

46. Girls Chase Boys from Ingrid Michaelson
From my album of the year when it came out.

47. Therefore I Am by Billie Eilish
There will be some Billie Eilish on my end of the year mix as well.
