We have no teams on bye this week, which is always fun. No one is in Europe, which is also good. The World Series will not play on Sunday, recognizing the Power of the Shield, so we can settle in for a full day of NFL action.
Last week we had four Top Ten matchups, but this week we don't have any. The Game of the Week is probably the Sunday Night game between the Cowboys and the 49ers. Neither team is in the Top Ten, but they were both expected to go to the playoffs this year, and they both need this game rather badly. The best action of the week, however, will probably be the last hour of the noon Central games on the Red Zone. Anyway, I hope you enjoy a week without byes or Europe, because I don't think we'll have another one until Thanksgiving.
At the half from Los Angeles, the Vikings and Rams are tied at 14.

Huge win for the Eagles, who had faced a lot of doubters in recent weeks. A disaster for Cincinnati.
DeleteCincinnati 17 - 37 Philadelphia (Final)
ReplyDeleteDetroit 52 - 14 Tennessee (Final)
Tampa Bay 26 - 31 Atlanta (Final)
ReplyDeleteCleveland takes a 29-24 lead with 59 seconds left, but misses the two-point conversion.
ReplyDeleteNew England 25 - 22 N.Y. Jets (Final)
ReplyDeleteThe Jets fall to 2-6, and the whole Aaron Rodgers thing isn't working out for them.
DeleteJets now 0-3 since firing Robert Saleh as their coach.
DeleteWith 35 seconds left, Baltimore has advanced to the Cleveland 38.
ReplyDeleteOn the last play of the game, Green Bay kicks a field goal to beat Jacksonville 30 - 27. Packers move to 6-2.
ReplyDelete14 seconds left. 3d and 10 for the Ravens at the Cleveland 24.
ReplyDeleteJackson's pass to the end zone is incomplete. Ravens have one more chance with 3 seconds left.
ReplyDeleteNo one can get open in the end zone, and Jackson's pass is incomplete. Baltimore falls to the Browns, 29 to 24. Really bad loss for the Ravens, but give credit to Jameis Winston, who was great for Cleveland.
ReplyDeleteHouston holds on to defeat Indy 23 to 20, and that wraps up the noon games.
ReplyDeleteNow we have Washington at home against Chicago. Washington has three big problems to overcome. First, Jayden Daniels may not be fully recovered from his rib injury last week. Second, the Bears and Caleb Williams have played really well lately. And third, Washington is wearing their ludicrous black alternate uniforms, which makes them look ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteWith 11:56 left in the first half, Washington leads 6-0.
ReplyDeleteJameis Winston's record as a starter is now 35-46.
ReplyDeleteFox just ran some footage from today's Marine Corps Marathon.
ReplyDeleteIt's wild to see a full house at Commanders' Stadium, or whatever it's called these days.
ReplyDeleteI was all set to explain that Washington blew a 12-0 lead to lose 15-12 because of the horrible black uniforms. But on the last play of the game, Jayden Daniels threw a Hail Mary that was CAUGHT FOR A GAME-WINNING TOUCHDOWN. The announcers on WBIG-FM are saying that Washington has never won a game on a Hail Mary pass, and I certainly can't remember them ever doing so. Washington wins 18-15, and their record is now 6-2.
ReplyDeleteI was very impressed by both teams -- it looked like a playoff game from beginning to end.
ReplyDeleteCaleb Williams: 10-24, 131 yds, 0 TD's, 0 INT's, rating of 59.5
ReplyDeleteWilliams struggled mightily in the first three quarters, but down the stretch he made a number of huge plays. I think the Bears should feel good about him.
Jayden Daniels: 21-38, 326 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT's, rating of 92.7
ReplyDeleteThe Bears defended Washington better than anyone has done all year, and up until the last play it looked as though they had managed to hold Washington to only four field goals. But Daniels was consistently dangerous, and in the end he made the huge play he'd been threatening to make throughout the game.
That's the best game played in Washington since I've been here, and I've been here since 1992.
It's amazing to think how hard these NFL guys work, and how often their games end on a fluky play.
