Month of MLB: Day 21

I've been rooting for the Dodgers since 1973, and I don't know that I've ever been much more pleased with them than I was last night.  At home, and with all the pressure on them, the Dodgers pounded the Mets 10-5 to win the pennant for the first time since 2020.  The Dodgers' offense was spectacular in this series, and they juggled their pitching staff brilliantly.  Check out these scores (home team listed first):

10/13:  Los Angeles 9 - 0 N.Y. Mets
10/14:  Los Angeles 3 - 7 N.Y. Mets
10/16:  N.Y. Mets 0 - 8 Los Angeles
10/17:  N.Y. Mets 2 - 10 Los Angeles
10/18:  N.Y. Mets 12 - 6 Los Angeles
10/20:  Los Angeles 10 - 5 N.Y. Mets

The Dodgers outscored the Mets 46 to 26, which is amazing.

So it's the Dodgers and the Yankees meeting in the World Series for the first time since 1981.  When they met in 1977, it was their first meeting in 14 years -- which seemed like forever to someone born in 1966.  When they meet this year, it will be their first World Series meeting in 43 years, which is equal to the difference between the 1934 "Gas House Gang" and 1977.

By the way, I'm pretty sure I've posted this before, but the 1934 Cardinals were that generation's equivalent of the 1985 Bears, which is why we heard so much about them growing up.

Anyway, the World Series doesn't start until Friday, so we get a few days to prepare.

  1. You have said that before about 1934 Cardinals and the 1985 Bears, and, for the life of me, I could not figure out how the 1-9-1 1934 Cardinals possibly related to the 1985 Bears--other than playing in the same city, of course.

    1. When I was 12 years old, I could have told you pretty much the entire starting lineup of the 1934 St. Louis Baseball Cardinals, also known as the "Gashouse Gang."
