Rocky Mountain, Skyline, Eagle, Timberline, Lakeland, and Sugar City are all great names.  I also like the fact that one of the high schools in Boise is still called "Boise."  And I'm happy to see James Madison in the top 20 both in Virginia and in Idaho.

  1. I just had to look up these nicknames:

    Rocky Mountain Grizzlies
    Skyline Grizzlies
    Eagle Mustangs
    Timberline Wolves
    Lakeland Hawks
    Sugar-Salem Diggers

  2. I like the idea of a team called the "Diggers," although it reminds me of Pam's father in the old "Dallas" TV show.

  3. Lakeland came into Moscow and won 35-7. One of two losses for Moscow this year.

  4. Of course, now that I think of it, the Paducah Tilghman Tornados is a very evocative name. As are the Trinity Shamrocks, the Bowling Green Purples, the Ashland Blazer Tomcats, and the Owensboro Catholic Aces. The nickname game was very strong in the 20th century KHSAA.

  5. Thank you, GoHeath! Memorial is one of two high schools in Evansville named for Francis Joseph Reitz, a local banker and philanthropist. There's Reitz Memorial High School (on Evansville's east side) and Reitz High School (on the west side--and featuring the best high-school football stadium in history, Reitz Bowl, on Reitz Hill).
