NFL Week Four

According to Pool Genius, "{t}he typical survivor pool is at around 5% of all entries still alive after just three weeks, if it has no special rules like strikes or buybacks."  It's been that kind of year so far.  Here is the latest top ten from ESPN's rankings:

1.  Kansas City:  3-0
2.  Buffalo:  3-0
3.  Minnesota:  3-0
4.  Seattle:  3-0
5.  Detroit:  2-1
6.  Philadelphia:  2-1
7.  Pittsburgh:  3-0
8.  Houston:  2-1
9.  San Francisco:  1-2
10.  New Orleans:  2-1

The Dolphins are 20th.  Washington is 19th.

For Week Four, the Game of the Week will be on Monday night, with the Detroit Lions hosting the Seahawks at 7:15 P.M. Central.  That's the only game featuring top ten teams, but I will want to watch the Ravens host the Bills on Sunday Night -- that should be a humdinger.  I also want to see how the Vikings do in Green Bay at noon on Sunday.  And, of course, folks in D.C. will want to see what happens when Washington goes to Arizona for a matchup with the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.

  1. I'm now rooting for Washington in the NFC because of GoHeath and Tony Kornheiser.

  2. I ended up going 5-11 last week. Not very good. That gets me to 22-26 for the year. It's funny because I actually felt pretty good about week 3 going into it.

Here are my week 4 pre-season predictions. At this point the only pre-season concepts I had that I feel good about is that the Jaguars and Browns would be bad.

    LA @ Chi 24-17

  9. The Packers lose a fumble with 4 minutes left, and that should sink them. Huge win for the Vikings.

  15. The United States has defeated the Rest of the World Other than Europe to win the President's Cup of Men's Professional Golf. The USA won on the road, at the Royal Montreal G.C. in Montreal, Canada. I think this is the last Golf Cup of the year. So the Cups stand like this:

Ryder Cup: Europe (next meeting in 2025 at Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.)

Presidents Cup: U.S.A. (next meeting in 2026 at Medinah C.C. in Medinah, Ill.)

Walker Cup: U.S.A. (next meeting in 2025 at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.)

Solheim Cup: U.S.A. (next meeting in 2026 at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, Netherlands

Curtis Cup: G.B. & I (next meeting in 2026 at Bel-Air C.C. in Los Angeles, Calif.)

    1. The Americans also hold all four of the men's major trophies, and one of the five women's major trophies. So it's been a good year for American golf.

  16. With 3:18 left in the second quarter, the Washington Football Team punts for the first time since Week One. The Football Team leads the Football Cardinals 14 to 7.

  17. Washington crushes the Football Cardinals 42 to 14. Meanwhile, the Nats finish at 71-91 -- the exact same record they had last year.

  19. While we watched the American Experience on President Reagan last night, my wife couldn't understand why I was so happy throughout the program--but that's because she couldn't see that I had the Bills' getting clobbered by the Ravens on mute on my laptop the whole time.

  20. Time for an update on the SilerCityLife Yahoo!Sports fantasy-football league, as is was the first weekend of Idaho-vs.-Kentucky interdivisional matchups ...

  21. The Coeur d’Alene Riverh have been the class of the league so far this season, and they are solidly on their way to maintaining their undefeated record through four weeks. The Riverh lead the 1-2 Owensboro River Dawg, 533.5-445, and are projected to about a 50-point victory after tonight's Dolphins-Titans and Lions-Seahawks games. I will be rooting for an all-time De'Von Achane performance for Miami to key a surprise upset for my River Dawg.

  22. The 2-1 Idaho Falls Chukars lead the 2-1 Lexington Legends, 552-522, and are on their way to victory. Lexington has no one playing tonight, So a couple of Seattle defenders, Rayshawn Jenkins and Devon Witherspoon, would have to lose 30 or more points against Detroit to bring this matchup back into play. A Jet defensive lineman, Will McDonald IV, scored no points for the Legends, and former Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki actually lost 4.5 points, so those two guys totally got cut a couple of minutes ago.

  23. The 1-2 Twin Falls Cowboys lead the 2-1 Louisville Cardinals, 466.5-424.5, and are projected to a 65-point triumph. But there’s a lot of big projected scorers for both teams still in play tonight, so there remains terrific potential for surprises. The Cowboys need Detroit quarterback Jared Goff and tight end Sam LaPorta to turn in their typically solid performances to hold back the Cardinals, who will be rooting for a lot of Goff handoffs to and LaPorta blocking for Detroit running back David Montgomery.

  24. Finally, in this week’s lowliest matchup, the 1-2 Bowling Green Hot Ro lead the 0-3 Boise Hawks, 481.5-356, and are projected to win handily, 488.21-400.56. Boise’s hopes of a big, come-from-behind win ride largely on the performance of three Dolphins vs. the Titans tonight: wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, kicker Jason Sanders and safety Jevon Holland.

  25. Matthew's Idahos end up beating my Kentuckys, 3-1, in head-to-head matches up. As my Dolphins head-coach dawg Mike McDaniel said late last night, "Bottom line is it doesn’t matter what we’re doing behind the scenes. On the field that’s not even close to good enough, so you just have to go back to the drawing board and assess very critically."
