  1. Wow ... Trinity and St. Henry are gone. I know Trinity wasn't an upset but still.

So, Madisonville-North Hopkins (the HP's declared 2020 champion) plays in the Second Region semis tonight. The 2019 and 2018 champions, Trinity and CovCath, are both gone, as is Scott County, the runnerup both of those years. Bowling Green, the 2017 champion, won last night.

The boys' tournament has been contested every year since 1917, and there have been 19 two-or-more-times champions.

  2. Forty-four one-time champs. Bowling Green is one of those.

  3. They're playing the 11th Region Semi-Finals today, and it's weird not seeing Scott County or Lexington Catholic on the board. As we pointed out last year, there are now two public high schools in Scott County -- Scott County and Great Crossing. This year neither of them had a winning record. That's a huge change for KHSAA basketball.

  4. Jason Frakes reports that Bullitt East has upset DeSales 62-58 in the Sixth Region semi-finals. DeSales had been ranked in the top 10.

  5. As we near that regional finals, there are no private schools left in the Sixth, Seventh, Ninth, or Eleventh regions. I didn't see that coming.

  6. In the 16th Region, Ashland Blazer survives an upset bid from West Carter. The Tomcats hit a three at the buzzer to force overtime and won 76-69 in OT.

    1. I normally root for the underdog, but Ashland was undefeated last year and never got to play in the state tournament.

  9. The 11th Region saw a thriller, with Lex. Douglass edging Lex. Dunbar 56-55. The drama in the 6th, 7th, 9th, and 11th regions this year has been phenomenal.

  10. In Madisonville, Hoptown was up 55-51 with 1:35 left the game. Madisonville fought back and sent the game to overtime. In overtime, Madisonville trailed 65-64 with 20 seconds left. But the Maroons had the ball and scored with one second left to beat Hopkinsville 66 to 65. What a game! Madisonville advances to meet University Heights for the Second Region Title.

    1. Just amazing. This game was described by three different sets of commentators on three different stations that I can receive on a radio in my Madisonville home.
