The Celtics lead their series with Toronto three games to two and are trying to finish off the Raptors. With 8 1/2 minutes left in the first half, Boston leads 33-25.
Actually, here's the real answer for me. "Tunnel of Love" is a great album. "Magic" is a great album. And I've never had much interest in any of the other albums that were released after "Born in the USA."
I think "Tunnel of Love" came out of a personal crisis, and "Magic" came out of a political crisis, and those two crises pushed him to do really great work.
Kemba Walker misses a layup at the other end. Toronto grabs the rebound with 2.2 seconds left. Now there's a dispute as to whether Toronto should get a timeout, or whether it should be a jump ball.
Toronto throws a lob to the basket. Foul on Boston. No shots. Toronto gets another chance with 0.9 seconds left. They try a 30-footer that misses. OVERTIME!
I find that these late-game situations in the NBA are just slugfests. Neither team could really run its offense in the last five minutes of regulation. Still tied at 98 all.
Boston misses, Toronto comes down with the ball. Norman Powell -- who just made a three-pointer -- is fouled. He makes both FT's and Toronto leads 106-104 with 1:20 left.
Van Vleet misses a runner. Boston has a runout, but Toronto commits a foul with 19 seconds left. Not a shooting foul, so Boston will have to try to score in the half court. They trail 106-104.
Boston tries a lob on the inbound pass, and Toronto fouls Jaylen Brown. This time he gets two FT's. He makes the first one. He makes the second one. We are TIED at 106 with 18.9 seconds left. Toronto will get the ball.
Lowry steals the ball, throws it away, Toronto gets it back, Powell drives to the basket, foul on Boston. I've seen Ravens/Steelers games that weren't this physical.
Boston comes down, but Powell steals the ball, scores at the other end, and is fouled. Toronto leads 121-117 with 38.8 seconds left. In their last three possessions Toronto has a three-point shot, another three-point shot, and an old-fashioned three-point play. That's the sort of thing you have to do to beat Brad Stephens in this type of game.
Boston lobs it down to Marcus Smart. He shoots a 3-pointer. NO GOOD! Toronto runs out the last 0.5 seconds, and THE GAME IS OVER. Toronto wins 125 to 122.
The end of regulation was ragged. The end of the first overtime was sloppy. The second overtime was just about as good a basketball as it is possible to see.
I wasted my night boiling over among MSNBC, Fox News, CNN and social media. I saw on Twitter that this game was a firecracker, but I couldn't get myself to turn away. So, thanks for the report.
In the 4th quarter, the teams combined for 38 points. In the five minutes of the second overtime, they combined for 35 points. Great, great basketball.
OK, here's the question: Can I come up with a list of Bruce Springsteen songs after Born in the U.S.A. that would add up to a great album?
ReplyDeleteHere's what I have so far:
ReplyDelete"Tunnel of Love"
"The Rising"
"Radio Nowhere"
"Magic"

I thought I would like the bubble NBA playoffs better than the regular NBA playoffs, and I have been correct so far.
ReplyDeleteMe, too. This feels more like a Christmas tournament at Saint Mary's.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what it's like. I really wish they were playing the whole thing at Tilghman -- that would have been amazing.
