The big star for the Dolphins so far has been Chris Lammons, a second-year cornerback from the University of South Carolina who is playing "gunner" on the punting unit.
And now Cornell Armstrong, a third-year cornerback from Southern Mississippi, makes a dramatic punt-coverage tackle from the opposite, right-side gunner position for the Dolphins. It's obvious that Miami's investments in gunner talent and training are paying big dividends during this NFL19 exhibition season.
The only thing I don't like about Joe Buck as a sports commentator is when he pokes fun at how uninteresting is the game he is calling. If I'm investing myself in watching this game, I want Joe Buck all in on broadcasting it. Otherwise, I like him just fine.
Jacksonville challenged the lack of a defensive pass-interference penalty on a third-down play deep in its own territory in the first quarter of a scoreless preseason game. The ruling on the field was upheld.
Another of the teams with a new starting quarterback in NFL19 will be the Miami Dolphins. Right now, it appears the new guy will be the much-traveled Ryan Fitzpatrick, but we'll see.
On Miami's first possession tonight, it called three straight passing plays before punting. On its second, it called three straight running plays before punting. So now the Jaguars have no idea what might be coming next.
THE DOLPHINS INTERCEPT NICK FOLES IN JACKSONVILLE TERRITORY! It's Eric Rowe, a former Philadelphia Eagle and New England Patriot, with the turnover in Miami's favor!
And now Fitzpatrick throws a touchdown pass! It's midway through the third quarter, and the Dolphins have surged to a 12-7 lead (Sanders missed the PAT kick).
AND NOW JOSH ROSEN LEADS A 99-YARD TOUCHDOWN DRIVE! The extra point by Sanders is good this time, and Miami's lead is 19-7 early in the fourth quarter.
Since the Dolphins are tanking I'm not going to pay any attention to them this year, except to see if Rosen is their QB of the future, and hope they don't win many games. If your strategy is to tank then let's at least not win games.
AND NOW JOSH RUDDOCK COMPLETES 22 OF 29 PASSES FOR 229 YARDS, ONE TOUCHDOWN AND NO INTERCEPTIONS, TO LEAD THE DOLPHINS TO A 16-13 VICTORY OVER THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS IN THE FOURTH AND FINAL EXHIBITION GAME!
Miami is like a runaway freight train rolling into the regular season. I hope we haven't peaked too early.

ReplyDeleteThe new quarterback for the Jaguars is Nick Foles. I would like to see a list of all the teams with new starting quarterbacks for NFL19.

ReplyDeleteThere are many things I could say about this comment, but I'm just going to let them go.
DeleteThank you for reading, GoHeath.

Dolphins punt.
ReplyDeleteJaguars lead, 7-0, with 4:02 to play in the first quarter.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to jinx anything with the Dolphins this season, but Fox just mentioned that Miami will be hosting the next Super Bowl.
ReplyDeleteI am really, really impressed with the Dolphins' punt coverage so far in NFL19.
ReplyDeleteI have always liked Ryan Fitzpatrick and am glad the Dolphins picked him up. I felt the same way about Ray Lucas about 15 years ago.

ReplyDeleteOK, there you go ... Jason Sanders hits a 40-yard field goal, and Miami closes the Jacksonville advantage to 7-3 in the second quarter.
ReplyDeleteAnd now Sanders makes from 46 yards. That's six unanswered points from the Dolphins. It's 7-6, Jacksonville, with 2:51 to play before halftime.

DeleteI am rooting for the Dolphins to go 19-0. My best guess is neither of us is going to get his wish.
DeleteAnd I'm not even going to get started on the A's.
ReplyDeleteI should've never mentioned the A's here.
