Album Review: Tell Me I'm Pretty by Cage the Elephant

If you go back and read my review of their album Thank You Happy Birthday, you'll see that I felt they were struggling to juggle all of their influences into a coherent album. After this album I'm starting to think this is just who these guys are. This time though it's not influences like The Pixies and Dinosaur Jr., it's the 60's. From the Beatles, to garage rock, to psychodelia; it's all here. It is all well covered, but again we are left with an album that doesn't feel whole, it feels lacking in some way and disjointed.

As for the album well I could see throwing it on while you clean the house or wash the car, but not something you are going to really get that into, more for background sound.  There isn't a bad song on the album so it is hard to be too critical, there just isn't anything here that really grabs me either. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. I think that, if I had lived in Bowling Green 2006-2016 instead of 1986-1996, I'd think that Cage the Elephant was the greatest band in rock-'n'-roll history.
