The leader through much of the morning has been Charley Hoffman, a 38-year-old from San Diego who won an NCAA championship at UNLV with Adam Scott in the 1990s. With an eagle at No. 15 and birdie at 16, Hoffman is now 4-under and a stroke better than anyone else so far in the first round. He has played the Masters only once before this week, finishing T27 in 2011.
