Football Update, 1964: 'Professional Football in Mid-America'

It's only Independence Day. But the A's are so bad and Kansas City's "zest and enthusiasm" for the second-year Chiefs is so great, that the locals are already thinking about the upcoming professional-football season.

  1. Underrated (by me until now): Fred Arbanas.

  2. I don't think it had ever quite registered with me that the Chiefs--as the Dallas Texans--in 1962 had already won an AFL championship. What a game! And here's Part 1 and Part 2 of a condensed version of ABC's broadcast. I don't believe I had ever heard of Paul Christman, Curt Gowdy's color commentator for this game and father of "noted Scientology critic Tory Christman."
