As we feared, UK got swept in South Carolina last weekend. The Cats have now lost six in a row, and they are out of the top 25. Meanwhile, North Carolina ran its record to 39-2 with a sweep of Duke to remain on top of the rankings. This weekend the Heels go to Raleigh, where they will take on a red-hot NCSU team that has won 14 in a row. That series should get the blood pumping in the Research Triangle, although we will note that in any competition between UNC and NCSU, you should always assume that the Tar Heels will prevail.
Vandy was beaten at home by Tennessee Tech (!), and then took two out of three from Georgia -- but they fell behind LSU, which won a series at Alabama. It looks like there are a lot of really good teams out there so far:
1. N. Carolina: 39-2
2. Louisiana St: 37-4
3. Vanderbilt: 35-6
4. Cal-State Fullerton: 34-6
5. Virginia: 35-6
6. N. Carolina St: 32-10
7. Oregon St: 30-8
8. Arizona St: 24-12
9. UCLA: 25-11
10. Florida St: 31-9
11. Oklahoma: 31-10
12. Louisville: 30-9
13. Oregon: 29-10
14. Arkansas: 27-15
15. S. Carolina: 31-10
16. Mississippi St: 32-10
17. Indiana: 29-8
18. Mississippi: 29-12
19. Rice: 28-14
20. Georgia Tech: 27-13
21. Stanford: 22-12
22. Gonzaga: 26-11
23. UNC-Wilmington: 30-11
24. New Mexico: 24-16
25. Clemson: 27-13

So UK lost the football game and both baseball games to Western this year. It's a good thing the Cats didn't have to play Western in basketball.
