Germany's team ended up reminding me a lot of the 1993 UK basketball team that destroyed every team in the NCAA tournament -- until it ran into Michigan in the Final Four. Germany has the type of team that can tear you apart -- if it can get on top and get you out of your game. But it cannot scratch out even a single goal against a really good team like Spain that can hold the ball and play solid defense. Germany couldn't score against Spain in the 2008 European Cup Final, and it couldn't score today.
Spain, meanwhile, showed themselves willing and able to score in a very "English" and old-fashioned manner when necessary. Their goal was not beautiful, but it was enough.
