There's about one month left in the MLB regular season. Like most American sports fans, we will use that month to watch football. But October -- the month of MLB -- is coming. Here's all you need to know for now:
In the National League:
The Dodgers, Phillies, Brewers, Diamondbacks, and Padres are basically locks for the playoffs. The Braves, Mets, and Cubs are battling for the last slot.
In the American League:
The Yankees, Orioles, Guardians, Astros, and Twins are pretty much locks for the playoffs. The Royals, Red Sox, Tigers, and Mariners are battling for the last slot.
The White Sox have a record of 31-107, and are probably going to replace the 1962 New York Mets as the worst MLB team since the 19th century. They are currently riding a ten-game losing streak. In fact, given the vagaries of baseball, they are probably the worst team in MLB, the NFL, or the NBA since I started following sports.
Latest odds to win the World Series:
Dodgers: +325
Phillies: +450
Yankees: +650
Orioles: +650
Astros: +800
Scottie Scheffler won the FedEx Cup, and he really deserved it.
ReplyDeleteBut our girls lost the Curtis Cup. So the Cups currently stand like this:
DeleteRyder Cup: Europe (USA hosts in 2025)
Presidents Cup: USA (Canada hosts in four weeks)
Walker Cup: USA (USA hosts in 2025)
Solheim Cup: Europe (USA hosts in two weeks)
Curtis Cup: Great Britain & Ireland (USA hosts in 2026)
The Rangers, following Bruce Bochy's usual practice, are taking this year off. They are 65-72, far out of playoff contention. But if Bochy's history is an accurate guide, they will be very tough to beat next year.
ReplyDeleteLast week, the Nationals won their 1,500th regular season since returning to DC in 2005. Since the beginning of the 2005 season, Washington's regular season record is 1,500-1,611 (.482). They have one pennant and one World Series title.
ReplyDeleteReports ChatGPT: "Since 2005, the Oakland Athletics have had varying success. From 2005 to 2023, they played a total of 3,034 regular-season games, recording a win-loss record of 1,421–1,613, translating to a .468 winning percentage. The A's had several strong seasons, including playoff appearances in 2006, 2012, 2013, and 2020. However, recent years, particularly 2022 and 2023, saw them struggle significantly, with 2023 being their worst season during this period, finishing with a 50-112 record."
ReplyDeleteThe A's are 60-78 in MLB24, so it has been a pretty tremendous turnaround season for us Las Vegas fans.
The A's bunted three straight times last night to beat the Astros, 4-3, in 12 innings, so this is turning into the most fun season for us Denver A's fans since Harry Met Sally.
