It's been a huge year for American golfers, as they swept all the majors and took the Gold Medal at the Olympics. But this week, the International golfers had their revenge. Hideki Matsuyama won the St. Jude Championship to kick off the FedEx playoffs. And at Hazeltine National Golf Club, golfers from Spain had things their own way:
QUARTER-FINALS:
Noah Kent 3 & 2 over Ethan Fang
Jackson Buchanan 4 & 3 over Jacob Modleski
Jose Luis Ballester (ESP) 3 & 1 over Bobby Massa
Luis Masaveu (ESP) 3 & 2 over Brendan Valdes
SEMI-FINALS:
Noah Kent 2 up over Jackson Buchanan
Jose Luis Ballester (ESP) 3 & 2 over Luis Masaveu (ESP)
FINAL (36 holes):
Jose Luis Ballester (ESP) 2 up over Noah Kent
Ballester becomes the first Spanish golfer to win the U.S. Amateur, and the first European to win the Amateur since Viktor Hovland in 2018.
