It's unusual to have the Opening Weekend of the NCAA Baseball Tournament and the U.S. Women's Open going on at the same time, but here we are. In the baseball, Kentucky leads Western Michigan 3-0 in the bottom of the 3d before a packed house in Lexington. Would be nice to see the Cats advance in an NCAA Tournament for a change.
Here is the current top 10 at the U.S. Women's Open:
T1. Minjee Lee (AUS): -1 (34 holes)
T1. Yuka Saso (JPN): -1 (33)
T1. Andrea Lee: -1 (18)
T1. Wichanee Meechai (THA): -1 (18)
T1. Miss Adela Cernousek (am) (FRA): -1 (18)
T6. Jin Kee Im (KOR): Even (33)
T6. Yui Kawamoto (JPN): Even (20)
T6. Sei Young Kim (KOR): Even (18)
T6. Miss Megan Schofill (am): Even (18)
T6. Chisato Iwai (JPN): Even (18)
T6. Alexandra Forsterling (GER): Even (18)
Miss Asterisk Talley, the 15-year-old amateur from California, is in the clubhouse with a score of 70+71 = 141 (plus 1). I think that score will look really good at the end of the day.
Kentucky leads Western Michigan 7-0 after 3 innings. Really great start for the Cats.
ReplyDeleteVandy won't be in this tournament for long. The Commodores, who went 13-17 in the SEC this year, trail Coastal Carolina 5-0 after 3.
ReplyDeleteHere are the top eight seeds in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, which began about 90 minutes ago:
ReplyDelete1. Tennessee (50-11)
2. Kentucky (40-14)
3. Texas A & M (44-13)
4. N. Carolina (42-13)
5. Arkansas (43-14)
6. Clemson (41-14)
7. Georgia (39-15)
8. Florida St. (42-15)
I've never seen Tennessee and Kentucky be ranked 1-2 in any sport, ever. Of course, there's never been another sport where Vandy won two national titles in six seasons.
Coastal Carolina leads Vandy 8-0 in the top of the 4th, and Vandy will have to go back to the drawing board.
ReplyDeleteThe Cats lead Western Michigan 8-0 after 4, and they look like the Number 2 overall seed right now. A very happy crowd in Lexington.
ReplyDeleteCats lead Western Michigan 10-5 after 5.
ReplyDeleteMinjee Lee (AUS) and Yuka Saso (JPN) are both in the clubhouse with 36-hole totals of 139 (1 under par), and they are tied for the lead.
ReplyDeleteThe Broncos have scored three runs in the top of the 6th, and they have runners on second and third with two out. Cats lead is now only 10-8.
ReplyDeleteUK strikes out the batter to end the inning. But the game is still wide open. After 5 1/2 innings, UK leads Western Michigan 10 to 8.

Nelly Korda is 10 over par through 24 holes. She has played 23 holes in 3 over par, and one hole in 7 over. If she can get to 7 over by the end of this round, she will probably make the cut.
Wichanee Meechai is 31 years old. She was born in Bangkok, Thailand, and her father is the Senior Tournament Director on the Asian Tour, the principal men's golf tour in Japan. She has never won a tournament on the L.P.G.A. tour.

Korda bogeys the 9th hole. She goes out in 34, and is now 9 over par. That puts her on the wrong side of the cut line.
