Borussia Dortmund beat Atletico Madrid 4-2 today, which means that it won 5-4 on aggregate.
Paris Saint-Germain was down 1-0 in Barcelona -- and down 4-2 on aggregate. But in the 29th minute, one of the Barcelona players got a red card, and PSG ran wild after that. Paris Saint-Germain hammered Barcelona 4-1, and won the quarter-final 6-4 on aggregate.
So we now have one of the semi-finals:
Borussia Dortmund (GER) v. Paris Saint-Germain (FRA).
I'll be rooting for both of these teams. I've got people on both sides.
ReplyDeleteNow here's a big game: Manchester City v. Real Madrid, from Manchester. The teams are tied 3-all after the first leg, so whoever wins today will be going to the semi-finals. It's hard to believe that Real Madrid and Barcelona would both miss the semi-finals, but it's also hard to believe Man City is going out at home.
ReplyDeleteMan City is the defending champion of Europe, and is also in first place in the English Premier League. Real Madrid has more European Championships than any other club, and they are in first place in Spain's La Liga. These are two very good clubs. It's like watching the Chiefs and the Bills in the quarter-finals.
ReplyDeleteAfter 10 minutes:
ReplyDeleteManchester City 0 - 0 Real Madrid (3-3 on aggregate)
In the 12th minute, Real Madrid pounces, as their Brazilian winger Rodrygo bangs home a rebound to give them a 1-0 lead. City looked overmatched there.
ReplyDeleteManchester City 0 - 1 Real Madrid (3-4 on aggregate).
After 20 minutes:
ReplyDeleteManchester City 0 - 1 Real Madrid (3-4 on aggregate)
After 30 minutes:
ReplyDeleteManchester City 0 - 1 Real Madrid (3-4 on aggregate)
After 40 minutes:
ReplyDeleteManchester City 0 - 1 Real Madrid (3-4 on aggregate)
Halftime:
ReplyDeleteManchester City 0 - 1 Real Madrid (3-4 on aggregate)
As you would expect, Real Madrid went into a defensive shell once it took the lead, and so far City hasn't come that close to breaking through.
After 50 minutes:
ReplyDeleteManchester City 0 - 1 Real Madrid (3-4 on aggregate)
City has 11 corner kicks, while Real Madrid has zero. But Real Madrid has the lead.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich leads Arsenal 3-2 on aggregate. So it looks like no English team will make the semis this year.
ReplyDeleteAnd there it is! After 60 minutes of attacks from City, the ball rebounds off of a Real Madrid defender and comes to the feet of Kevin De Bruyne, a Belgian midfielder for City. He slams the ball past the goalkeeper and we are tied again!
ReplyDeleteAfter 75 minutes:
ReplyDeleteManchester City 1 - 1 Real Madrid (4-4 on aggregate)
It's all to play for now!
After 100 minutes:
ReplyDeleteManchester City 1 - 1 Real Madrid (4-4 on aggregate)
In extra time now. Real Madrid just trying to hang on for penalty kicks. They've been playing defense for 88 minutes.
Cliffhanger!
