They had a thriller in the Classic OVC on Saturday, as Western edged Austin Peay 65-64 in Bowling Green. Meanwhile, Morehead remains on top of the heap:
155. Morehead St: 8-3
162. W. Kentucky: 9-3
180. Murray St: 3-7
237. Mid. Tenn. St: 5-6
238. Austin Peay: 6-7
239. E. Tenn. St: 6-4
243. E. Kentucky: 4-6
311. Tennessee Tech: 5-7
Meanwhile, UK moved up to number 9 in the AP Poll, but they are still number 21 on Ken Pom. He currently predicts that the Cats will go 12-6 in conference and 22-9 overall. Meanwhile, check out the Classic SEC:
7. Tennessee: 8-3
8. Auburn: 8-2
9. Alabama: 6-4
21. Kentucky: 8-2
30. Mississippi St: 9-2
38. Florida: 7-3
86. Georgia: 7-3
90. Mississippi: 10-0
107. Louisiana St: 6-5
229. Vanderbilt: 4-6
Vandy is the worst major Classic Conference team in America. They are below Rice (186), Oregon St. (205), and Georgetown (177).
It seemed to me like every year, Western pulls out a wild, high-scoring bowl game, and I wasn't far wrong. Look at these scores:
ReplyDelete12/24/14: Western 49, Cent. Michigan 48 (Bahamas Bowl)
12/21/15: Western 45, S. Florida 35 (Miami Beach Bowl)
12/20/16: Western 51, Memphis 31 (Boca Raton Bowl)
12/16/17: Georgia St. 27, Western 17 (Cure Bowl)
12/30/19: Western 23, W. Michigan 20 (First Responder Bowl)
12/26/20: Georgia St. 39, Western 21 (LendingTree Bowl)
12/18/21: Western 59, Appalachian St. 38 (Boca Raton Bowl)
12/21/22: Western 44, S. Alabama 23 (New Orleans Bowl)
12/18/23: Western 38, Old Dominion 35 (Famous Toastery Bowl)
That's 8 out of 10. Unless you are Georgia State, you don't want to draw Western in bowl season.
Georgia State must have a good defensive coordinator, or at least had back when they played Western.

DeleteIndiana beats Morehead State 69-68 in Bloomington. Huge win for the Hurryin' Hoosiers, who pull out a major victory over a Kentucky school. Congrats to IU.
ReplyDeleteBack in the AP top 10 at number 9, Kentucky goes to Louisville and beats the U of L, 95 to 76. That leaves them at number 20 in Ken Pom with a record of 9-2.
