Meanwhile, on Sirius/XM Channel 7, Casey Kasem is counting down the top 50 songs of 1977. Number 48 is "More than a Feeling," by Boston.
As we expected, Kentucky stays at number 19 in the Ken Pom rankings. Their offensive efficiency is 118.8, good for number 7 in the country. Their defensive efficiency is 97.4, which ranks them at 54. They are at 259 for "Luck."
ReplyDeleteNumber 47 song of 1977: Jennifer Warnes, "The Right Time of the Night." I am really going to like this countdown. For me personally, 1977 was one of the best years ever.
ReplyDeleteOn December 31, 1977, the University of Kentucky Wildcats would beat number-4 Notre Dame 73 to 68 at Freedom Hall. The win would run their record to 8-0 and keep them as the number one team in the country. Here's what they had done so far:

ReplyDeleteNumber 45: The Commodores, "Easy"
ReplyDeleteNumber 44: Climax Blues Band, "Couldn't Get It Right"
ReplyDeleteNumber 43: Foreigner, "Feels Like the First Time." Casey tells us that Foreigner is the most successful new group of the year.
ReplyDeleteWith 7:16 left in the first quarter, Ole Miss and Penn State are tied at 3 to 3.
ReplyDeleteNumber 42: Barry Manilow, "Looks Like We Made It."

ReplyDeleteNumber 40: The Jacksons, "Enjoy Yourself"
ReplyDeleteNumber 39: Johnny Rivers, "Swaying to the Music"
ReplyDeleteNumber 38: Burton Cummings, "Stand Tall." Casey tells us that Burton Cummings wrote this song after his girlfriend of nine years left him for another man.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, here's where Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin are after four years:
ReplyDeleteOverall record: 33-15
SEC record: 20-13
Bowl record (going into today): 1-2
Finished 11th in the final AP Poll for 2021; unranked in other years
Lost the Sugar Bowl after the 2021 season
Ranked 11th going into today's Peach Bowl
Number 37: David Soul, "Don't Give Up On Us Baby." Casey tells us that "Starsky and Hutch" was rated as the most violent show on television.
ReplyDeleteWith 30 seconds left in the first quarter, Ole Miss takes a 10-3 lead.
ReplyDeleteNumber 36: Brick, "Dazz"
ReplyDeleteCasey explains that "Dazz" means "Disco-Jazz." And, indeed, you can hear the people singing "Dazz, dazz, disco-jazz." I never knew any of this.
DeleteNumber 35: Firefall, "You Are the Woman"
ReplyDeleteNumber 34: Pablo Cruise, "What You Gonna Do?"
ReplyDeleteWith 13:34 left in the 2d quarter, the Peach Bowl is tied 10 to 10.

ReplyDeleteSome people claim that no one cares about the Bowl Games, but Penn State and Ole Miss are really flying around the field and celebrating after every big play.
ReplyDeleteNumber 32: The Captain and Tennille, "Muskrat Love." Casey has a story about how they performed this song at the White House for the President and Queen Elizabeth, and some people in the Queen's entourage were offended. If you can imagine Gerald Ford and Queen Elizabeth sitting in the White House listening to a live performance of "Muskrat Love," then you really have a great picture of what the 1970's were like.
ReplyDeleteWith 10:33 left in the first half, Ole Miss takes a 13 to 10 lead.
ReplyDeleteNumber 31: Stevie Wonder, "I Wish." The pull of nostalgia in the 1970's was unbelievable. I've never lived through anything like it since.

ReplyDeleteNumber 29: Peter McCann, "Do You Wanna Make Love"
ReplyDeleteNumber 27: Manfred Mann's Earth Band, "Blinded By the Light" Casey compares these lyrics to the nonsense poems in "Alice in Wonderland."

ReplyDeleteNumber 18: The Spinners, "Rubber Band Man" This, of course, is one of the great songs of all time.

ReplyDeleteNumber 11: Leo Sayer, "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing"
ReplyDeleteNumber 10: Allen O'Day, "Undercover Angel"
ReplyDeleteNumber 9: Mary McGregor, "Torn Between Two Lovers." This may be the most Seventies song of all Seventies songs.
ReplyDeleteThis Marquette/Creighton game is terrible. With 7 minutes left in the first half, Creighton leads 19-13.
ReplyDeleteNumber 8: Hot, "Angel in Your Arms." I feel like these women should meet up with the woman from "Torn Between Two Lovers."
ReplyDeleteNumber 7: Thelma Houston, "Don't Leave Me This Way"
ReplyDeleteNumber 6: Kenny Nolan, "I Like Dreaming"
ReplyDeleteWith 4 minutes left in the third quarter, Ole Miss leads Penn State 31 to 17.

ReplyDeleteWith 4:14 left in the Peach Bowl, Ole Miss leads Penn State 38 to 25.
ReplyDeleteMarquette finally got rolling, and they lead Creighton 64-59 with 1:36 left in the game.
ReplyDeleteOle Miss wins the Peach Bowl, beating Penn State 38 to 25.
ReplyDeleteMarquette beats Creighton, 72 to 67. The Golden Eagles are now 11-3 on the year.
ReplyDeleteMaryland is cruising over Auburn in the Music City Bowl, up 31 to 7. With 11:07 left in the first half, Georgia leads Florida State 14 to 3.
ReplyDeleteWith 10:31 left in the second quarter, Georgia leads Florida State 21 to 3. On the other hand, ACC fans can enjoy Maryland's big win over Auburn.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure the Seminoles are really focused on the Orange Bowl. Down 21-3, they fumble the kickoff. And then, on the next play, Georgia pitches the ball to a wideout, who is supposed to throw a pass. His receivers are covered, so he simply dashes across the field, and through the entire FSU defense for a 27-yard touchdown run. With just over 10 minutes left in the first half, Georgia leads 28 to 3.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Ken Pom had Alabama beating Liberty 83 to 74, but instead Alabama won 101 to 56. That's how you move up in Ken Pom. Alabama jumps up to Number 5.
ReplyDeleteMaryland wins the Music City Bowl, 31 to 13 over Auburn. With 3:39 left in the first half, Georgia leads the Orange Bowl 35 to 3.
ReplyDeleteKen Pom picks an MVP for every game. Here are the MVP's for UK's games so far:
ReplyDeleteNew Mexico St: Rob Dillingham
Texas A&M Commerce: Tre Mitchell
Kansas: Hunter Dickinson (Kansas)
Stonehill: Reed Sheppard
St. Joseph's: Tre Mitchell (2)
Marshall: D.J. Wagner
Miami (Fla.): Reed Sheppard (2)
UNC Wilmington: Reed Sheppard (3)
Pennsylvania: Aaron Bradshaw
N. Carolina: R.J. Davis (UNC)
Louisville: Antonio Reeves
Illinois St: Antonio Reeves (2)
With 9:23 left in the third quarter, Georgia leads Florida St. 49 to 3. This may be my favorite Orange Bowl of all time.
ReplyDeleteAfter three quarters, here's the score from the Orange Bowl:
ReplyDeleteFlorida St. 3 - 56 Georgia
Final Score from the Orange Bowl:
ReplyDeleteFlorida St. 3 - 63 Georgia
I really think this may be my favorite Orange Bowl of all.
That's all from me.
ReplyDeleteUNC crushed Charleston Southern 105-60, so the Tar Heels move up to 12th on Ken Pom, and that pulls UK up to 18th.
