The wind didn't blow so hard at Royal Liverpool, the scores got lower, and for the first time all week we have some big names up on the leaderboard. Jon Rahm shot a 63 to put himself in contention for his second major title of the year. Cameron Young shot a 66, to put himself in position to win the tournament where he came in second last year. But Brian Harman shot a 69 himself, and finishes the day with a five-shot lead for the second day in a row:
1. Brian Harman: -12 (67+65+69=201)
2. Cameron Young: -7 (72+68+66=206)
3. Jon Rahm (ESP): -6 (74+70+63=207)
T4. Victor Hovland (NOR): -5 (70+72+66=208)
T4. Antoine Rozner (FRA): -5 (67+74+67=208)
T4. Jason Day (AUS): -5 (72+67+69=208)
T4. Sepp Straka (AUT): -5 (71+67+70=208)
T4. Tommy Fleetwood (ENG): -5 (66+71+71=208)
T9. Alex Fitzpatrick (ENG): -4 (74+70+65=209)
T9. Shubhankar Sharma (IND): -4 (68+71+70=209)
Here are the odds for tomorrow:
-175: Harman
+700: Young, Rahm
+1800: Hovland
Very impressive that Brian Harman rallied from his tough early start yesterday to regain his big lead by the end of his round. Can he do it again today?
ReplyDeleteI'm in Day 9 since appearance of COVID-19 symptoms, so that means no church and plenty of British Opening and HPing this Sunday morning for me. I'm excited to learn where Brian Harman grew up!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm so thrilled to see the drizzle and the sweaters from the UK.
ReplyDeleteWyndham Clark of Denver opens his post-U.S. Open-championship majors career by closing out a 1-over performance at the British Open.
ReplyDeleteOK, here we go ... Brian Eric Harman is 36 years old and from Savannah, Georgia.
ReplyDeleteWow ... terrific par save for Rory McIlroy on one of the holes. He's 5-under and seven shots off Harman's lead, and so is Jason Day, who just rolled in a lengthy birdie putt--maybe 10 feet.
ReplyDeleteMcIlroy is through 12 holes.
DeleteHarman's top challengers at this point are Jon Rahm and Seth Straka, who are both four off the lead through seven and nine holes, respectively.
ReplyDeleteRahm puts his second shot out of the rough on No. 8 to hole high about about 30 feet away. He'll have that back for birdie. It was a really terrific shot.
ReplyDeleteBut not as terrific as Harman's long birdie putt on No. 7 which follows on the NBC broadcast! So now our man from Savannah is back to 12-under and five clear of the field.
It was reportedly This Week In HP History™ that Brian Harman and his wife, the former Kelly Van Slyke, were originally supposed to get married.
ReplyDeleteBrian Harman likes to bow hunt, and he's big into scuba diving and spear fishing with his family. He's a fan of the Falcons, Hawks and Braves.
ReplyDeleteRahm and Straka, by the way, are both back to a T2 group at 6-under, so Harman now has a six-stroke lead with 10 holes to complete.
ReplyDeleteHarman's mom is a chemist, and his dad is a dentist. His wife is a radiation therapist. Harman studied finance at the University of Georgia, but, of course, his career has been in professional golf.
ReplyDeleteStraka got back to 7-under, and Harman has now made the turn to the back nine with a five-stroke lead.
ReplyDeleteHarman is still 12-under through 11 holes and five clear. Straka has been joined by Tom Kim (which is so close to Tom Kite) at 7-under.
ReplyDeleteHarman bogeys No. 13, so his lead over Kim, Straka and now Rahm, is four strokes. Kim, who is now wearing his baseball cap backward, probably because of rain dripping off the bill, just misses a lengthy birdie putt on No. 17.
ReplyDeleteHarman's on the fairway with his drive on No. 14.
DeleteMy daughter saw the Barbie movie last night and liked it, and I still love every freaking Progressive commercial that company rolls out with Flo and Jamie.
Day is in and Rahm is out of the T2 at 7-under, four behind Harman.
ReplyDeleteAnd Hartman is now back to 12-under and five ahead with four holes to play. What an impressive performance for the Savannah financier!
ReplyDeleteHarman, of course.
DeleteHarman from the 15th tee ... fairway.
ReplyDeleteStraka gets to 8-under. So what? Harman birdies 15: 13-under.
