So there are only two Super Regional games left. Southern Mississippi will play Tennessee at 5 PM Central on ESPN2. (8) Stanford will play Texas at 7 PM Central on ESPN.
Southern Miss/UT is currently in a weather delay.
ReplyDeleteUT now reports that their game will start at 9:06 PM Central.
ReplyDeleteTexas was just eliminated in unbelievable fashion. Their game with Stanford was an epic. Stanford went up 3-0; Texas made it 3-3. Stanford went up 6-3; Texas made it 6-6. So it came down to the bottom of the 9th. With two outs, Stanford almost hit a game-winning homer, but it was actually a double. Then the next man walked.
ReplyDeleteWith two out and two on, the next batter for Stanford hit a lazy fly to right-center. The air went out of the stadium, as the Stanford fans prepared for extra innings.
ReplyDeleteBut then the announcers pointed out that the Texas players couldn't see the ball. In the twilight -- it was 8:40 PM in Northern California -- the ball simply disappeared. The shortstop could see the ball -- he was behind it -- and he kept trying to tell the right fielder where it was. But none of the outfielders could see it at all, and sure enough, it plopped down in the middle of right center field. Normally an easy out. But today, a game-winner. The runner on second, who was running with two outs, easily scored to win the Super Regional for Stanford by a score of 7 to 6.
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy!
DeleteThat was a heartbreaker.
ReplyDeleteTennessee whacks Southern Mississippi 5-0 to win the Hattiesburg Super Region. Tennessee and Oral Roberts were the only road teams to win at the Super Regionals.
