Well, I thought he was going to be a great player for Kentucky. I'm not surprised he's transferring, because Cal basically stopped playing him about ten games into the season. On the other hand, it's not like Cal hates to play freshmen -- for some reason, he didn't think Onyenso would help the team. I don't know who will turn out to be right here, but it's always disappointing when these things don't work out.
For a long time, I've thought that there should be a friendly media outlet in Kentucky for UK coaches, so that those coaches would have a reporter who could tell their side of the story when things go wrong. But we don't have that -- the whole media in Kentucky hates UK and wants it to lose every game. So when things go wrong, the UK program goes into radio silence and the fans are left to speculate on what the problem is.
ReplyDeleteFor example, I'm sure they had a good reason for never playing Onyenso, even though they had the worst defense any UK team has had in the last 25 years. But no one will ever tell us what that reason was.
ReplyDeleteThey wanted their great shooters on the floor maybe.
DeleteOnyenso has apparently withdrawn from the portal and will return to Kentucky. I think that's good news.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news!
