Yesterday was a good day for Team Chaos, as the Yankees, Braves, and Dodgers all lost:
National League:
Philadelphia 9, Atlanta 1
San Diego 2, Los Angeles 1
American League:
Cleveland 4, New York 2 (10 innings)
So all the favorites (except for Houston) are in some trouble. Here are today's games:
National League:
Atlanta at Philadelphia (Phillies lead 2-1)
Los Angeles at San Diego (Padres lead 2-1)
American League:
Houston at Seattle (Astros lead 2-0)
New York at Cleveland (series tied 1-1)
The Phillies crush the Braves 8-3, and Atlanta is eliminated.
ReplyDeleteHouston and Seattle are scoreless after 12. The Yankees trail Cleveland 2-0 after 2.
ReplyDeleteHouston and Seattle still scoreless going into the 14th. Yankees and Cleveland tied at 2 in the 4th.
ReplyDeleteHouston and Seattle still scoreless going into the 15th. Yankees lead Cleveland 4-2 in the top of the 5th.
ReplyDeleteHouston and Seattle still scoreless going into the 16th. These games are like the Western Front in World War I -- the current tactics don't work, but managers just keep sending people over the top and hoping for a home run. Yankees lead Cleveland 4-2 in the top of the 6th. The Yankees game could finish before the Houston/Seattle game.
ReplyDeleteHouston and Seattle still scoreless going into the 17th. New York leads Cleveland 4-3 in the top of the 7th. Could that game also be headed for extras?
ReplyDeleteHouston and Seattle still scoreless going into the 18th. New York leads Cleveland 5-3 in the bottom of the 7th. San Diego and Los Angeles have finally started after a weather delay.
ReplyDeleteI'm giving up on Houston and Seattle, and I'm going to watch the second half of USC and Utah.
ReplyDeleteHere are the SEC scores from today so far. These are final scores:
ReplyDeleteMississippi 48 - 34 Auburn
BYU 35 - 52 Arkansas
Georgia 55 - 0 Vanderbilt
Tennessee 52 - 49 Alabama
Amazingly, today Alabama was whistled for more penalties than they've ever faced in any other game in the whole history of the program.
In Gainesville, LSU is clinging to a 42-35 lead over Florida with 5:25 left in the game.
ReplyDeleteAnd Utah should stick to their red uniforms. These black uniforms don't work.
ReplyDeleteWe have a home run in Seattle! We have a home run in Seattle. In the top of the 18th, Jeremy Pena homers to give Houston a 1-0 lead.
ReplyDeleteUSC leads Utah 28-21, and the undefeated Trojans must win this game to keep their playoff hopes alive. Right now, we know that Clemson and Ohio State are going to the playoff. Georgia will probably also go as the SEC champion. That leaves one spot for either Texas Christian, USC, or UCLA (all of which are still undefeated). If all three lose, that slot will probably go to Tennessee or Michigan.
ReplyDeleteUtah scores to tie USC at 28 in the third quarter. Meanwhile, Clemson is beating Florida State 34-14 after 3, and Michigan beat Penn State 41-17. I don't know why other teams in the ACC and the Big 10 don't really try to compete, but I don't make the rules.
ReplyDeleteHouston heads to the bottom of the 18th with a 1-0 lead.
ReplyDeleteSouthern Cal goes straight down the field to take a 35-28 lead with 11:04 left in the 3d.
ReplyDeleteESPN just announced that next week, College Game Day will be going to Oregon to watch the Ducks defend the Unofficial College Football Championship against UCLA.
ReplyDeleteHouston beats Seattle 1-0 in 18 innings and the Astros are going to the ALCS for the sixth year in a row.
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, the Mariners fans waited a long time to see their team get swept by the Astros. On the other hand, they did get to see 18 innings of baseball.
ReplyDeleteLSU beats Florida 45-35 in Gainesville. Gators now 1-3 in the Conference this year, and they still haven't played Georgia.
ReplyDeleteLSU moves to 5-2 on the year, and LSU has a chance to sink an undefeated Ole Miss team next week. Of course, LSU had a similar chance against UT last week, and it didn't go so well.
ReplyDeleteCleveland scores three runs in the bottom of the 9th, and Cleveland stuns the Yankees 6-5. Cleveland now leads that series 2-1.
ReplyDeleteKentucky roars back from a 10-6 deficit in the second half to beat Mississippi State 27-17. Mark Stoops wins a few games like this every year, which is what makes him invaluable to the Wildcats.
ReplyDeleteWith 10:55 left in the game, Utah and USC are tied at 35. Meanwhile, the Dodgers -- who must win or go home -- lead San Diego 2-0 in the bottom of the 3d.
ReplyDeleteUSC responds with a touchdown to lead Utah 42-35 with 6:15 left.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to say that these best of five series in MLB are fluky, that anything can happen in them, and that they're not fair to the team that won so many games in the regular season. And I agree with all those points. It's also true that the Yankees won five of six ALDS series from 1996 to 2001, and that the Astros won six in a row from 2017 to 2022. So the results are not entirely random.
ReplyDeleteWith 51 seconds left in the game, USC still leads 42-35. But Utah has the ball and it is 4th and Goal from the USC 1 yard line. Here we go.
ReplyDeleteFrom the shotgun, Utah's QB runs the ball into the end zone to make the score 42-41. And now Utah is going for two!
ReplyDeleteThe QB drops back -- and then dashes into the end zone, John Elway style! Utah leads 43-42 with 48 seconds to go!
ReplyDeleteThis is huge for Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, all of whom are still hoping to join Georgia in the playoffs. These teams all need USC to lose tonight.
ReplyDeleteUtah hangs on to beat USC 43-42, and the Trojans fall from the ranks of the undefeated.
ReplyDeleteAnd so we go to San Diego, where the Dodgers are playing for their lives. LA leads 2-0 in the top of the 6th, but they trail the Padres two games to one.
ReplyDeleteThere's no way I'm going to stay up until 2 AM waiting to see if the Dodgers can hang on against the Padres. I'll see everyone tomorrow.
