I scored only "fair" last week, so I'm looking for a big comeback in this week's quiz.

Crap. Only three of five. It kills you if you don't dominate Worldscope.

ReplyDeleteHarold Wilson, "Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twice, from October 1964 to June 1970, and again from March 1974 to April 1976. He was the Leader of the Labour Party from 1963 to 1976, and was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1945 to 1983. Wilson is the only Labour leader to have formed Labour administrations following four general elections. ... The Wilson government oversaw significant societal changes in the United Kingdom, abolishing both capital punishment and theatre censorship, decriminalising male homosexuality in England and Wales, relaxing the divorce laws and liberalising abortion law. ... Wilson's reputation was low when he left office and was still poor in 2016."
DeleteThe guy who plays Harold Wilson in "The Crown" is spectacular.

I can't believe I missed Tom Watson, and I initially had Hank Aaron at 25 All-Star Games but thought that was just impossible--too many seasons. Should've gone with my first guess. Amazing.
DeleteJohnny Miller had already won the 1973 U.S. Open, while Tom Watson did not win a major until 1975. I know these things because I have read "Massacre at Winged Foot," by Dick Schaap, at least five times.
DeleteSixty-six points. Again: fair.
ReplyDeleteWhen I started posting these quizzes, I imagined myself on the weekends then posting blue-book essay answers to the Roundtable questions. I got bogged down actually writing my response to even just this first one. Maybe I'll come back to these some day when we're old (please, God). And, in case I do, I want to link to this post, the spirit of which is the thrust of the answer I'm thinking about for my response to this Roundtable.
