According to SportsMediaWatch.com, since 2019 only seven non-football sporting telecasts have topped ten million viewers in the United States:
1. 2021 Men's College Basketball: Baylor defeats Gonzaga (CBS) -- 16.92 million
2. 2021 Men's College Basketball: Gonzaga defeats UCLA (CBS) -- 14.94 million
3. 2021 Kentucky Derby (NBC) -- 14.37 million
4. 2020 World Series Game 6 (FOX): 12.70 million
5. 2021 NBA Finals Game 6 (ABC): 12.52 million
6. 2021 NBA Finals Game 4 (ABC): 10.25 million
7. 2020 World Series Game 5 (FOX): 10.06 million
I think I watched parts of all of these. Games 4 and 5 of the NBA Finals were terrific; I saw only a bit of Game 6.
ReplyDeleteI watched more of NBC's Kentucky Derby telecast this year than I remember ever watching. Tony Kornheiser loves this show. I'm not as big a fan of it as he is, but it did keep me watching. We saw at the house of some of Virginia's friends. We had a giant pile of very-mainstream snacks--various Pizza Hut pizzas and other menu items, multiple types of Doritos and on and on. It felt like we were the people in the commercials during the broadcast.
The Gonzaga/UCLA game was one of the best I've ever seen. The Baylor/Gonzaga game was one of the worst NCAA finals ever played.
