Feels crucial ...

  1. Meanwhile, in the National League, it’s the Giants, Brewers and Mets leading divisions and the Dodgers and Padres leading the wild-card standings, ahead of the Reds, Nationals, Cubs, Cardinals, Braves and Phillies.

I’m rooting for Oakland over Washington in the World Series.

  2. Laureano got out, and then Elvis Andrus singled. Now Matt Olson is up. He's our only All-Star.

  3. Olson strikes out. Jed Lowrie ...

  4. Lowrie's out. Still 2-0, A's. Headed to bottom of the seventh ...

  5. So with two out in the seventh, Frankie Montas, who had struck out 10 Astros, yielded double, wild pitch and double. Now it's 2-1, and a 36-year-old reliever, Yusmeiro Petit, is warming up ...

  6. For the eighth, the Astros sent out a relief pitched named Andre Scrubb who had an ERA of 5.94. But after quickly snuffing out three A's hitters with batting averages all well under .240, Scrubb's ERA for the season is down to 5.60. Still 2-1, Oakland ...

  7. The A's have moved on to "Sweet Lou" Trivino, a relief pitcher who has been with Oakland for a few seasons now. He's pretty good. I always think about how close his name is to Lee Trevino's, and I think his nickname should be more along the line of Trevino's "SuperMex" or "Merry Mex." Trivino is from Pennsylvania, and it's "The Quaker State," so I might go with "SuperQuake."

Trivino walks the leadoff Astro in the bottom of the eight, and now Jose Altuve's on first after a fielder's choice. Jose Altuve allegedly was not one of the cheaters.

  8. SuperQuake dispatches the next two Astros, and we're headed to the ninth. Still 2-1, Oakland ...

  9. Two out, and Ramon Laureano singles. Laureano came into this game hitting .238, which, on the A's, makes him Amos Freaking Otis. Now it's Elvis Andrus, another of Oakland's big sluggers (.234) ...

  11. The Oakland pitcher for the ninth is 34-year-old Jake Diekman. I remember reading about this guy when he got to the A's, and I remember I liked him from the start, but I can't remember why. Anyway, his nickname is "Gut It Out."

Gut It Out gives up a leadoff single, but then gets the next Astro to Ground Out into a double play! Two out, and here comes Kyle Tucker (unsure of his alleged cheating status) ...

    1. I really should've said, "Gut It Out Gets Tucker Out!" That works better.
