ReplyDeleteMSU gets the last out and wins 6-5. Mississippi State will host Notre Dame in the Super Regionals.
ReplyDeleteNow Ole Miss and Southern Mississippi are playing for a ticket to Tucson and a chance to play Arizona in the Super Regionals. They had to wait out a three-hour rain delay, but now the sun is out and Ole Miss's stadium is packed.
ReplyDeleteIn the bottom of the 1st, Ole Miss starts off with a double by Jacob Gonzalez and a homer by Peyton Chatagnier. The Rebs lead 2-0.
ReplyDeleteSouthern Miss has these uniforms that would have been really good for Heath. They have a black cap with yellow letters, a yellow shirt with black numerals, and white pants with black pinstripes. They look great.
ReplyDeleteOle Miss whacks another two-run homer, and leads 4-0 after 1.
ReplyDeleteAfter another long rain delay, Ole Miss comes out and puts up five more runs. The Rebels now lead 9-0 in the bottom of the second.

ReplyDeleteThis whole season has been a big party in Fayetteville. Arkansas has been number one in the country for months. The Razorbacks won every series they placed in the SEC. They won the SEC Tournament. They are the number one seed in the NCAA's. But they lost to Nebraska last night, and the Cornhuskers have taken a 1-0 lead in the 2d inning today.
ReplyDeleteOle Miss hangs on and beats Southern Miss 12 to 9. Ole Miss goes to play Arizona in the Super Regionals. Now the scene shifts to Fayetteville, where Nebraska leads1-0 in the top of the 3d.
ReplyDeleteNebraska has broken out the black shirts for this game. And the bats. The Huskers lead 2-0 after 1 1/2 innings. They will be getting nervous in Fayetteville.
ReplyDeleteI worried that Nebraska might be an unfair draw for a team as good as Arkansas. The Huskers went 31-12 this year, but all of their games were played against Big 10 opponents. So no one really knows how good they are.
ReplyDeleteOnly three Big 10 teams got into the tournament, and the other two -- Michigan and Maryland -- have already been eliminated. But Michigan went all the way to the final in 2019. So you never know what you're going to get with the Big 10.

ReplyDeleteIn the bottom of the 5th, Arkansas whacks a home run. Nebraska leads 2-1.
ReplyDeleteIn the bottom of the 6th, Robert Moore, the Arkansas second baseman and number-5 hitter, blasts a home run to left field. We are now tied at two, and the folks in Fayetteville are calling the Hogs.
ReplyDeleteAfter six, Nebraska and Arkansas are tied at 2.
ReplyDeleteNebraska goes down 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th. Still tied at 2.
ReplyDeleteThe championship game in the Columbia Region, between Old Dominion and Virginia, has been rained out. The Monarchs and Wahoos will play for the title tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWith two outs in the bottom of the 8th, Nebraska's pitcher walked back-to-back batters, and went to 2-0 on the next batter. So Nebraska changed pitchers. Here's what happened:
ReplyDeleteWalk to load the bases.
Wild pitch to make the score 3-2 for Arkansas.
THREE-RUN HOMER by a pinch-hitter.
Arkansas leads 6-2 and is three outs from Super Regionals.
Arkansas wins 6-2 and will host North Carolina State in the Supers. Great performance by Arkansas ace Kevin Kopps, who entered in the third inning and allowed only three hits and no runs in seven innings. Eight strikeouts. Zero walks. Great job.
