College Baseball

Vandy had a rough weekend in Oxford:  the Dores lost 3-1 on Friday night, bounced back to win 13-2 on Saturday, but lost 13-10 on Sunday (the wind was blowing out).  The Dores fall from number 2 to number 3 in the rankings.  Meanwhile, Tennessee and Arkansas had a series for the ages.  Playing before a packed house (with virtually no masks) in Knoxville, Arkansas fell behind 5-0 on Friday night, but roared back to win 6-5.  On Saturday, Arkansas led 7-5 going into the bottom of the 9th, but UT walked off as 8-7 winners after a three-run homer.  And on Sunday, Arkansas ground out a 3-2 win to take the series -- and then the coaches for Arkansas and UT got into an argument.  Great, great stuff.  With one weekend left in the regular season, the SEC standings look like this:

EAST
(4) Tennessee:  18-9
(3) Vanderbilt:  17-9
(9) Florida:  17-10
S. Carolina:  15-12

Kentucky:  11-16
Missouri:  7-20

(13) Mississippi:  16-11
Alabama:  12-14
Louisiana St:  11-16
Texas A & M:  8-19
Auburn:  8-19

Here is the latest top 10 from D1 Baseball:

  2. My household is five of six doses in, and we are pretty much no masks outside but still masks inside in public. That said, I'm not sure what I'd vote for doing if the three of us were at a packed college-baseball stadium, even outside, but then I had put together a long history of not being at packed college-baseball stadiums before the pandemic, anyway.

Western finished its regular season (26-27) a couple of days ago by beating Eastern in 14 innings at The Nick.

I will be rooting for UK this weekend in Nashville, and I will be rooting for WKU for a Cinderella run through the ConfUSA tournament next week in Ruston. But I do expect to be rooting for Vandy in the College World Series.
