NFL Draft

I hope the Packers trade Aaron Rodgers. That would be exciting. I hope he goes to San Francisco, and then I hope it's Green Bay vs. San Francisco in the NFC Championship.

Check back for more #hottakes like that one in the comments over the weekend ...

  1. I would’ve bet $1 million that Progressive couldn’t top Flo, but I think Jamie is even funnier!

  3. On his podcast the other day, Tony Kornheiser asked Peter King about the old position-of-need/best-athlete-available debate around the NFL draft. It seems to me this was always a Cowboys thing--the line of smart-person commentary being that Dallas was always good because Gil Brandt had figured out it worked better for him to just stockpile stud players in the draft and then let Tom Landry figure out how to plug them all in together in training camp.

Peter King said he always felt like this was a little too neatly stated. It looked to him, he said, that most teams had always usually done something somewhere in the middle, along the lines of best athlete available among its positions of need. I imagine he's right. For example, after the Cowboys loaded up on linebackers--Randy White (he was initially slotted as Lee Roy Jordan's replacement at middle linebacker), Thomas Henderson and Bob Breunig--with three of their first four picks and each of those guys showed themselves to be contributors in NFL75, they loaded up on defensive backs, running backs and offensive linemen in the first two-thirds of the draft in NFL76.

  4. It would be fine with me if President Biden nationalized Pro Football Reference and made us pay taxes to ensure that it is maintained and preserved as an essential resource of the United States.

  5. Pro Football Reference says the Dolphins had two players making at least $11 million in NFL20 (defensive backs Xavien Howard and Byron Jones), three other players making at least $5 million (quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, linebacker Shaq Lawson and defensive back Bobby McCain) and then 19 other guys making at least $1 million.

I'm going to have to get to work, but I wanted to note that for myself for something to look at this evening during the second and third rounds.

  6. Another note to self: The Buccaneers had seven guys with AVs of 10 or more.

  7. I have pretty much always bought the Dolphins' public explanation of things at the time, and that has pretty much always turned out to be bad judgment on my part.

  8. OK, I've got to get to work. This is a rat hole.

  9. Rob pointed out last night that, if Najee Harris runs for 10,000 career yards and leads the Steelers to three Super Bowl victories, he would still only be the second-best Harris to ever play running back for Pittsburgh.

    1. According to pro-football-reference the Steelers yards before contact per attempt was 1.9 yards making them 31st in the NFL. Not sure a new running back is going to solve that issue. Baltimore by the way lead the NFL at 3.4 YBC.
