I've got a feeling, in the sweet by and by, the most honest version of myself is going to reveal to me that The Sun-Democrat Channel Selector was the No. 1-favorite periodical of my life.
One thing I've come to realize that its adherence to the same layout every week--"Answer Man" always where "Answer Man" is, "Sports Telecasts" always were "Sports Telecasts," same "Monday Evening" dogleg every Page 2 and so forth--totally established my print-design prejudices. Those prejudices have persisted to this day, and they are why I was never a very stylish newspaper-layout person (though typically on time and on budget) and have gradually been involved in fewer and fewer design conversations as my career has surged forth/ambled along/petered out/whatever.
