Beginning with the 2009 Season, the SEC West has a record of 11-1 over the SEC East in the SEC Football Championship.
The only victory for the East was in 2017, when Georgia beat Auburn 28-7. A few weeks later, Alabama (from the SEC West) beat Georgia in the National Championship Game.
Here's the record of SEC East teams in the title game during this period:
Georgia: 1-4
Florida: 0-4
Missouri: 0-2
S. Carolina: 0-1
And here's how the SEC West teams have done:
Alabama: 7-0
Auburn: 2-1
LSU: 2-0
In case you are wondering, since Coach Cal arrived in Lexington, Kentucky has gone 6-2 in the SEC Basketball Final. The two teams that lost -- in 2012 and 2014 -- are the only two of Cal's UK teams that played for the National Championship.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm pretty sure that UK would be 7-2 in those games if last year's tournament had been played. I think UK would have rolled through that tournament.
ReplyDeleteTaxSlayer Gator Bowl at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida, 11 a.m. Central Jan. 2, 2021 (nationally televised on ESPN): Kentucky (4-6 but on a one-game winning streak) vs. North Carolina State (8-3)!
ReplyDelete(Also, LendingTree Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama, 2:30 p.m. Central Dec. 26 (nationally televised on ESPN): Western Kentucky (5-6 but on a three-game winning streak) vs. Georgia State (5-4)!)
I'm not watching any bowl game where one team has a losing record.
