I was actually pretty excited for the Cotton Bowl tonight -- Florida v. Oklahoma. I was prepared to settle in and make a night of it. But apparently a lot of the Florida players have decided not to play because they don't want to hurt their draft status, and Oklahoma is now favored by 8 1/2 points. So you shouldn't feel obliged to watch.
I'll probably watch anyway. But I'm a fanatic.
Sure enough, less than three minutes into the game Oklahoma leads 14-0.
ReplyDeleteIf you're an Oklahoma fan, is crushing a depleted Florida team in the Cotton Bowl better than getting crushed by Alabama or Clemson in the College Football Playoff? I think it would be for me.
ReplyDeleteLast Five Oklahoma Bowl Games:
ReplyDelete12/31/15: Orange Bowl (Playoff): Clemson 37, Oklahoma 17
01/02/17: Sugar Bowl: Oklahoma 35, Auburn 19
01/01/18: Rose Bowl (Playoff): Georgia 54, Oklahoma 48 (2 OT)
12/29/18: Orange Bowl (Playoff): Alabama 45, Oklahoma 34
12/28/19: Peach Bowl (Playoff): LSU 63, Oklahoma 28
See, I think OU fans would enjoy this game a lot more than those playoff games.
Oklahoma now up 17-0 with 8 minutes left in the first. This is an embarrassing performance for Florida, which will end the season with three losses in a row.
ReplyDeleteFlorida drives down the field only to throw an interception in the end zone. That's Kyle Trask's second INT of the game -- the first was returned for a TD.
ReplyDeleteAlso, they should play the Cotton Bowl at the Cotton Bowl -- especially in years where it's not part of the playoff.
ReplyDeleteOklahoma 17-3 with 31 seconds left in the first quarter. Trask has actually thrown three interceptions already -- I must have missed one.
ReplyDeleteBelmont smashes Murray State 68-55. That always puts me in a bad mood.
ReplyDeleteFlorida has moved to within 17-10 with 8:08 before the half.
ReplyDeleteFlorida kicks a field goal, and OU now leads 17-13 with 6 minutes left in the half.
ReplyDeleteBut then Florida's defense gets out of the way, and OU easily drives down the field to make the score 24-13 with 4 minutes before halftime. That's going to be my last update -- I've seen enough of this game.
ReplyDeleteOklahoma won 55-13. Florida turned one of my favorite events of the year -- the historic Cotton Bowl, which has been one of the best parts of college football history -- into a farce. That was a shameful performance -- if the Gators didn't want to be there, they should have let another team have that slot.
