Olympics!
ReplyDeleteOh, my word, within the last seven hours, Team USA has beaten Canada in both women’s ice hockey and men’s curling, in metal rounds both.
ReplyDeleteI'm really appalled with my spelling throughout this series.
DeleteTeam USA ... taking gold medals in cross-country skiing and hockey, advancing to final in curling and--now on NBC Sports Network tape delay--leading a biathlon relay ... this is a heck of a burst in the Winter Olympics ...
ReplyDeleteOK, the United States did not medal in the women's biathlon relay (Belarus, Sweden and France did), but the Shusters and the women's hockey team really did both beat the Canadians today. And, of course, the women's cross-country team was amazing yesterday.
ReplyDeleteBy the time I got to the live men's curling this morning, I think I was just worn out. The last few days at the Olympics have just been incredible. The other thing is that I was following it on the Olympic Broadcasting Services streaming feed through the NBC Sports Network application on my phone. The commentators are intentionally unbiased, so you don't get the rooting for Team USA to really rev you up. I love the OBS stuff, but, for big Team USA wins, I like the NBC home cooking.
ReplyDeleteNow it's fun to come back for big NBC's tape-delayed Team USA love in the afternoon and see John Shuster as the opening replay of the daily 2-4 p.m. Central show.
ReplyDeleteShuster Sucks @Shustersucks
ReplyDeleteWell, looks like I'm eating crow for this year at least. After 2010 and 2014 I didn't think he would be able to turn it around, and now he's going for the gold, getting silver at worst. I take none of my words back, but for this year at least, my angry words are over

Let me be the first to start the Jon Shuster for closing ceremony flag bearer campaign. #curling #TeamUSA

Need to buy a John Shuster jersey

Shuster's last rock in 9 was nothing short of brilliant. Fortune favors the brave. Even if Koe makes, its still 4-4 with hammer in 10

CJ Hoyt @CJHoyt1
Just watched John Shuster make history for U.S. Curling. After watching him miss shots match after match for years... he finally delivered. He erased years of disappointment with an amazing stretch. Beating Canada to get to the Gold Medal match was amazing. Now let's win Gold!
2:38 PM - 22 Feb 2018
John Shuster, American Olympic hero.
ReplyDeleteAnd now we're going to get the full-game replay on CNBC.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, NBC Sports Network has moved on to the full replay of the women's hockey final. Canada looked substantially bigger, more skilled and more confident in this game, but Team USA seemed to get quicker, more purposeful and more scrappy each minute from the third period onward.
ReplyDeleteOh, by the way, congratulations, Norwegian mixed curlers!
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten how angry the NBC color commentators had gotten with the officiating by the end of the third period, right before Team USA scored its game-tying second goal with about six minutes to play. "That's incompetence!" seethed Mike Milbury or Brian Boucher or whoever this is, about a no-call offisdes.
ReplyDeleteBy this point in the game, it now looks like Team USA is constantly playing with an extra skater. Every time it appears a Canadian skater breaks away, here comes an American or two to converge and steal the puck. They were just great.
ReplyDeleteI'd also forgotten this Team USA penalty with about a minute and a half to go in overtime. One of the commentators adroitly noted that it was a four-on-three overtime penalty that Canada scored its game-winning goal in the Sochi 2014 gold-medal game.
