Album Review: Snow by Angus and Julia Stone

This Australian brother, sister duo have been putting out records since 2007. Their biggest success came in 2014 with their self titled album. I have never heard of them, so this is my introduction. If you have watched the video for "Chateau" that I have embedded then you'll see they are coming across as cool, hip, bearded, free spirited, smoking, drinkers. That pretty much describes the sound they are going for, at least what those things mean in 2017. There is something about their sound that gets to be a bit tiresome about half way through the album. I would imagine in the same way hanging out with someone who wanted to project themselves as being hip and cool would get old after a while. The songs in the end, though OK, feel a bit overly subdued. I find them most interesting on songs like "Oakwood" where they are cutting lose a bit more and bringing some more life to the song.

Their sound reminds me a bit of The Weepies, but the big difference is that The Weepies carry with them a certain energy and openness, that just seems to be missing here. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
