ReplyDeleteThe three most interesting things I learned:
ReplyDelete-- One, the original nickname for the school's athletic teams was "Bald Eagles," not just Eagles and not "Screaming Eagles" or whatever. I don't think I've ever heard of any team being called "Bald Eagles."
-- Two, in 1935, per The Courier-Journal, "Dr. John Howard Payne, recently removed as president of Morehead State Teachers' College, was confined in Eastern State Hospital here today following a lunacy hearing before a Rowan County jury last night, County Judge C. E. Jennings signed the court order after a verdict was returned by a jury. Two Morehead physicians. Dr. G. C. Nickell and Dr. Everett D. Blair, testified Dr. Payne was subject to moods of violence."
-- And, three, Adron and Mignon Doran sound like absolutely stunning characters of Kentucky history. I knew nothing of them, though I have visited the Adron Doran University Cener many times.
