Oh, Kentucky

Marcetta York Darensbourg, a native of Artemus and a grad of Knox Central High School and Union College in Barbourville, is the 2017 American Chemical Society (ACS) award winner for organometallic chemistry!

There's a Change.org petition opposing rollout of utility smart meters in Kentucky (smart grid!).

Oh, wow, it turns out there all sorts of Change.org petitions about Kentucky ... save drug court, remove Gov. Bevin from office, investigate people who kill snakes, rejigger the KHSAA wrestling finals, train students in CPR, allow the schools to paddle kids ...

Good jobs news from Wickliffe.

Fayette Mall starts free valet parking tonight.

Just in time for the 13th Region KHSAA basketball tournaments ...

Aldi is bringing its discount-supermarket game to Radcliff. Hazard's Sav-a-Lots is bringing the noise for an area provider of hospice and other types of care. Paducah's first free pantry is up and running, thanks to Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church. And Madisonville's Christian Food Bank new home in the old Foodtown is almost ready to drop.

Nicholasville is seeking a new Extension agent.

Rest in peace, Irene Nolan, The Courier-Journal's managing editor when it won its 1989 Pulitzer.
