Album Review: Future Politics by Austra

I love this line from Allmusic.com's bio of Austra. Katie "Stelmanis is a classically trained vocalist and pianist who joined the Canadian Children's Opera at age ten and intended to pursue a career in classical music before falling in love with punk, industrial, and electronic music." That's pretty much all you need to know to get an idea of what to expect from this band. That and the sense that these are not experimental artists, but rather a band aiming to create songs around pop structures.

I had never heard of this band, but found this album interesting. This is my first clean the house album of the year and I've been playing it around the house quite a bit. The kids like to dance to it and my wife commented that she liked it. For me the only problem is that there isn't a song or songs that I really love and I feel that as the year passes it will be one of those albums that fades from my memory. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
