The company that owned the hospital in Fulton also owned a hospital in Martin, Tennessee; when Fulton County sought to take it over and find bidders for the local hospital, the company passed and instead closed the hospital, forcing the folks in Fulton to choose between going to the company's Martin hospital or a hospital owned by the company's competitor in Mayfield (which is further away from Fulton than is Martin).
