Sean Woods's Morehead State team has been running in bad luck for most of conference play. Look at these losses (home team listed first);
1/16: E. Illinois 84 - 82 Morehead St. (OT)
1/24: Morehead St. 74 -78 Jacksonville St.
2/4: Belmont 73 - 67 Morehead St.
2/6: Tennessee St. 77 - 76 Morehead St.
That's four losses by a total of 13 points, which is the sort of thing that can make a coach talk to himself. But last Saturday, Morehead was on the right side of a close score, coming from way behind (they trailed 32-16 with five and one-half minutes left in the first half) to beat Belmont 78 to 77. So we will keep an eye on Morehead, which appears to be out best chance to bring the OVC title back to the Commonwealth:
EAST:
127. Belmont: 10-3
172. Tennessee Tech: 10-3
156. Tennessee St: 9-3
146. Morehead St: 8-5
205. E. Kentucky: 5-8
287. Jacksonville St: 4-9
WEST:
192. Murray St: 8-5
217. UT-Martin: 7-5
278. E. Illinois: 7-6
242. Austin Peay: 5-8
319. SIU Edwardsville: 2-11
338. SE Missouri St: 2-11
One more thing -- I think that if the OVC insists on having divisions, it should break down by North and South instead of East and West. A North/South split would work as follows:
North: E. Illinois, E. Kentucky, Morehead St., Murray St., SE Missouri St., SIU Edwardsville
South: Austin Peay, Belmont, Jacksonville St., Tennessee St., Tennessee Tech, UT-Martin
See? All the Kentucky schools are in one division, and all the Tennessee schools are in the other. Isn't that better?
