It's Glory's Last Chance!
The big story yesterday was how Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth would do. The two wunderkinds combined to win four majors in a row before Zach Johnson broke through at the British Open a few weeks ago, so they are naturally the focus of attention. But they both settled for quiet 1-under par rounds -- solid performances that by no means leave them out of contention, but not enough to be in the top 10. Meanwhile, our old friend Dustin Johnson has the first-round lead for the third major in a row. But of course, we are rooting for Campbellsville native J.B. Holmes to become the first Kentuckian to win a major since Gay Brewer won the 1967 Masters:
1. D. Johnson: -6 (66)
2. D. Lingmerth (SWE): -5 (67)
T3. J. Day (AUS): -4 (68)
T3. H. English: -4 (68)
T3. R. Henley: -4 (68)
T3. J.B. Holmes: -4 (68)
T3. M. Jones (AUS): -4 (68)
T3. M. Kuchar: -4 (68)
T3. D. Lee (NZL): -4 (68)
T3. S. Piercy: -4 (68)
