Last night, the Vanderbilt Commodores matched UVA's 1-0 win over Florida with their own 1-0 win over Texas Christian. After watching Texas Christian crush Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl and humiliate LSU in the CWS, it was nice to see an SEC team that was competitive with the Horned Frogs.
So for now, last year's two finalists are in the pole position to make this year's final. But each of them will have to beat a very good team to advance:
BRACKET A:
Virginia 5, Arkansas 3
Florida 15, Miami (Fla.) 3
Miami (Fla.) 4, Arkansas 3 (Arkansas eliminated)
Virginia 1, Florida 0
BRACKET B:
Texas Christian 10, Louisiana St. 3
Vanderbilt 4, Cal-State Fullerton 3
Louisiana St. 5, Cal-State Fullerton 3 (Cal-State Fullerton eliminated)
Vanderbilt 1, Texas Christian 0
Gator Harrison Bader leads off the Florida/Miami (Fla.) with a tremendous home run to left-center field. It's the first CWS game to start with the home run since 2008. The Gators lead 1-0 in the top of the 1st.
ReplyDeleteBuddy Reed hits a two-run homer in the top of the 1st, and now the Gators have a 3-0 lead. That's all for Miami pitcher Enrique Sosa, who lasted 2/3 of an inning. The Canes turn to Andrew Suarez to stem the tide.
ReplyDeleteAfter 1, the Gators still lead 3-0.
ReplyDeleteThe loser of this game is eliminated; the winner will play UVA on Friday.
In the top of the 2d, the Gators load the bases but do not score. Florida leads 3-0 after 1 1/2 innings.
ReplyDeleteIn the top of the 5th, the Gators get a double and two singles to built a 4-0 lead. Florida still has two men on base with no one out. Miami is changing pitchers again.
ReplyDeleteWith runners on first and third, Florida lays down a perfect bunt. Everyone is safe, and the Gators lead 5-0.
ReplyDeleteA two-run double gives the Gators a 7-0 lead in the top of the 5th, and it very much looks as though Florida will get a rematch with UVA.
