128 Teams Left

Tomorrow the greatest high school athletic competition in the world moves into Regionals.  In many ways, this is my favorite part of the State Boys' Basketball Tournament.  You've got all these wonderful local rivalries, and everyone is so excited about going to Rupp Arena.

Anyway, it all starts tomorrow in Louisville.  The way the Seventh Region is set up, two of the top five teams in the State are likely to meet in the Regional Semifinals.  That should be exciting.

6th Region Quarterfinals:
Bullitt East (20-9) v. N. Bullitt (16-11)
Lou. Doss (23-6) v. Lou. Holy Cross (15-16)
Lou. Moore (8-17) v. Lou. Fern Creek (17-11)
Lou. Pleasure Ridge Park (18-7) v. Lou. DeSales (23-7)

7th Region Quarterfinals:
(1) Lou. Ballard (28-2) v. Lou. Central (17-8)
(5) Lou. Trinity (23-5) v. Lou. Male (15-13)
Lou. St. Xavier (19-9) v. Lou. Waggener (16-11)
Lou. Manual (23-5) v. Lou. Eastern (17-9)

  1. So glad you posted this, by the way, as I had it wrong that the boys regionals started Wednesday, not today.

  2. In girls regionals last night, 1982 and ‘84 state-champ Marshall County fell in the First Region to Tilghman, 59-39. Per the Twitter traffic from Murray State, the game was close until the officials counted a Tilghman basket on a shot that apparently did not actually go through the basket, as typically required.

Also, the defending state champ--Louisville Butler--is through, beaten, 56-53, by Bullitt East in the Sixth. That's a big night in Mount Washington right there. The champs were 23-5 and beat the Lady Chargers by 14 at Bullitt East earlier this season.
