118 Teams Left

The 13th Region, in the Southeast corner of the Commonwealth, was the only place where they played boys' high school basketball last night.  Everything else was snowed out.  To give props to the hardy people of the 13th, we will be giving team nicknames for the schools that played last night.  The 13th Region is about as far from the 1st as you can get, and I didn't know any of these nicknames until I looked them up:

13th Region Quarter-Finals (at Corbin):
Barbourville Tigers 52, Bell Co. Bobcats 43
Williamsburg Yellow Jackets 60, Jackson Co. Generals 45

Personally, I think "Yellow Jackets" is an underrated nickname, while "Generals" is overrated.

Meanwhile, today's schedule has been mostly wiped out by snow.  On the KHSAA web page, only the Caverna-Elizabethtown game in the Fifth Region Quarter-Finals is still listed as set for today, but we will see if it is actually played.  I hope they wait at least one more day.

In our neck of the woods, they are taking more drastic steps.  The First Region Tournament won't start at all until Saturday, while the Second Region Tournament is now scheduled to begin on Monday.  Eric, why are they playing that tournament at Union County?

  1. I don't know. It'd be good to know how those selections are made.

I'll tell you what, though--I like Union County a good bit.

  2. Ever since I can remember, the Second Region has always been played in Hopkinsville, Madisonville, or Henderson. I wonder if the Union/Crittenden/Livingston types all complained.
