Noel Harrison is the guest on tonight 1969's Jerry Lewis Show on NBC.
Now here was an interesting guy. He was Rex Harrison's son, by the first of the English actor's six marriages. He skied in the 1952 and '56 Winter Olympics. He starred opposite Stephanie Powers in The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. He performed the 1968 Academy Award winner for Best Original Song (one year after his dad performed the 1967 winner). Oh, and when he's singing his second number on Jerry Lewis tonight, ...
... he's not kidding. Says Wikipedia: "In 1972, Harrison left the United States for Nova Scotia in Canada, settling in rural Mount Hanley. He bought a farmhouse with 320 acres of farmland, and from there he commuted to Halifax where he hosted a show called Take Time for CBC Television. In the winter of 1974, the wood stove caught fire and his house burned down, inspiring Harrison to write the humorous song, "The Middleton Fire Brigade", which appeared on his 1979 album Mount Hanley Song. He subsequently built a new house from scratch with no electricity, inspired by the fashionable pioneers Helen and Scott Nearing and their self-help bible, Living The Good Life."
Rest in peace, Noel Harrison, who, Wikipedia goes on to say, died in 2013 at age 79 of a heart attack not long after a performance. As of 2011, at least, he still sounded fantastic.
