OK so what we have here in a lot of ways is country music meets 80's U2 and Simply Red. It's not a bad combination of sounds but there is something about it that leaves me feeling a bit out of sorts. Often the songs feel like they are trying too hard and though there isn't any bad songs or bad moments on the album, as a whole the album feels a bit over the top.
The better moments on the album are the quieter moments like "Call to War" or "Watch Over Us." It would be fun to hear a full album of this kind of folk, country, rock from these guys. As it is it is an album that wouldn't be bad to throw on while you clean the house on a rainy day, but it's not the kind of album I'll find myself coming back to.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
