Last Week in Western Kentucky

The playoffs started last week, and they have already ended for a very good McCracken County team forced to play in a class that is simply too hard for it.  These scores are merely a supplement to Eric's excellent coverage.  I just want to say that I think this is one of the worst playoff systems in any sport.  Why do schools like the Fulton's, who have already had a long year, have to get hammered one more time?  I mean, I'm happy for Christian County, but it's not worth it to have yet another week of blowouts.

There were 24 games last week involving teams from Western Kentucky.  The higher-seeded teams went 18-2 in Classes 1A through 5A, and most of those games were not competitive.  In 6A, the four Western Kentucky teams lost to four teams from Louisville (two of which are private schools) by a total score of 37-193.  It really makes me angry that the kids from Western Kentucky had to be humiliated in that fashion.

  1. Last school year, Fulton City High had 99 students; Fulton County, 157. I was surprised just how low those numbers were.
