There's plenty of recent history among the teams playing for the Region 1 and Region 2 championships in Class 2A on Friday.
Caldwell County was 12-0 when it hosted 8-4 Murray in the 2013 Region 1 championship. Just a month earlier, Murray had lost in Princeton, 42-13. But in the playoffs, the westernmore Tigers prevailed, 27-14. On Oct. 17 this season, Caldwell County won at Murray, 31-24. Friday's game is in Princeton.
In Region 2, Christian Academy-Louisville and Louisville DeSales were both unbeaten when they played at CAL on Oct. 18. The visiting Colts lost 27-24. They reconvened on the same field in the playoffs, and, this time, DeSales rocked, 34-0, and went on to win the state championship. This season, again CAL and DeSales were both unbeaten heading into their regular-season clash, but this time it was the Centurions winning at DeSales, 17-0.
Friday's Region 3 and 4 finals also both are rematches of regular-season games:
-- Newport Central Catholic won, 22-17, at Newport.
-- Prestonsburg won, 26-18, at Pikeville Shelby Valley.
Both of the first games were played Oct. 10, and both games return to the same venues Friday.
