Album Review: The Classic by Joan as Police Woman

I've never been a big Joan as Police Woman fan, but I've always found her interesting and with this album she has done something quite wonderful. In some ways it feels dated as Joan takes on the 50's and 60's inspired music that was made so popular by Amy Winehouse almost ten years ago. But for inspiration Joan looked to David Bowie and Rickie Lee Jones, artists who were also heavily influenced by the 50's and 60's music and has thus created an album in 2014 that sounds fresh and different and very Joan as Police Woman.

Lyrically she's always been of interest and she's aging well. Now at 44 Joan Wasser is writing about life in a reflective and interesting way that is fun and thoughtful to listen to if you are of her generation, and could be instructive if younger. It's also nice to hear an album from someone that is taking a positive look toward life.

All in all I like this album and find that it has some really good moments. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad. It seems odd I know to give an album only 2 stars that I just praised so heavily. But even though I enjoyed the album I don't see myself coming back to it. Now I may be wrong and in that case I should have given it 3 stars, but I don't see it.
